Synopsis

Gru and Lucy and their girls—Margo, Edith and Agnes—welcome a new member to the Gru family, Gru Jr., who is intent on tormenting his dad. Gru also faces a new nemesis in Maxime Le Mal and his femme fatale girlfriend Valentina, forcing the family to go on the run.

The latest instalment in the beloved animated franchise, *Despicable Me 4*, sees our favourite reformed supervillain, Gru (voiced by the inimitable Steve Carell), navigating the chaotic waters of family life as he and his wife Lucy (Kristen Wiig) welcome a brand-new addition: Gru Jr. This adorable, yet undeniably mischievous, little one seems intent on making his dad’s life a living hell, creating a hilarious new dynamic within the already bustling Gru household, which includes their three adopted daughters, Margo (Miranda Cosgrove), Edith (Dana Gaier), and Agnes (Joey King). Guiding this animated escapade is director Chris Renaud, a seasoned hand in the *Despicable Me* universe, ensuring the series’ signature blend of heart and humour remains intact.

However, the domestic bliss, or lack thereof, is quickly shattered by the emergence of a formidable new nemesis. The cunning and flamboyant Maxime Le Mal (voiced by the ever-versatile Will Ferrell) and his equally dangerous, sophisticated femme fatale girlfriend, Valentina (Sofia Vergara), burst onto the scene with nefarious plans that directly threaten Gru and his family. Their arrival forces the entire clan, Minions and all, to abandon their suburban sanctuary and embark on a thrilling, high-stakes adventure as they go on the run, leading to a series of hilarious mishaps and daring escapes that are sure to keep audiences on the edge of their seats.

This latest chapter promises to delve deeper into Gru’s evolving role as a father, particularly his struggles with Gru Jr.’s relentless torment. The film cleverly balances the high-octane action with the relatable challenges of parenthood, ensuring that even amidst the explosions and espionage, there’s a genuine emotional core. The girls, Margo, Edith, and Agnes, each bring their unique personalities to the chaos, providing their usual blend of innocence, spunk, and surprising wisdom as the family faces its biggest challenge yet. The voice cast, a stellar ensemble including additional talents like Stephen Colbert and Chloe Fineman, truly brings these vibrant characters to life with their superb comedic timing and emotional depth.

As with previous entries, *Despicable Me 4* is expected to deliver a cracking good time, filled with the franchise’s hallmark slapstick comedy, inventive gadgets, and heartwarming moments that resonate with audiences of all ages.
