Extremely well structured, competent and responsive. And of course MAC experts. That’s how I would describe Andreas Kleutgens and his team.
Our situation before cooperation.
We said goodbye to the Windows server and client world many years ago. A Mac mini with Mac server software has been responsible for approvals, rights, roles and data backup in a very stable manner for many years. Unfortunately, support for Apple’s server software has ended. So a change became necessary. Many system houses offered me a Windows Server (It was supposed to be the best solution. But I said goodbye to it many years ago.) Too expensive, too sluggish, too difficult to administer and completely oversized. The situation in the server room was also terrible overall. Cables were lying all over the place, the 19 inch rack was much too small. Slots not labeled and distributed chaotically. Nobody had any insight in the event that something went wrong again. In addition, the cabling and distribution of the network cables were stressful. We repeatedly had failures and performance problems.
In dialogue with other digital agencies, we came across Synology as a server solution. A slim solution that you can administer yourself and exactly the tasks that our server still has to do. Today we solve most tasks using cloud-based applications. I found Andreas Kleutgens online as a Synology and Mac expert. Just the right combination for our needs.
The task
Set up and configure the Synology server, analyze, check and update all existing hardware in advance (if necessary). Install all cabling and hardware in a new 19 inch cabinet in a clean, structured and documented manner. And of course with minimal downtime. 🙂 From my long experience with such processes, I had a lot of respect for long downtimes and problems with system conversion.
The renovation
After very precise and transparent planning, the old server was shut down on a Tuesday morning. The new prepared hardware was connected and set up so that we could work again around midday. 10 employees working from home were able to become productive again very quickly. In the afternoon and the next day everything was neatly set up and set up.
